Amritsar has a rich legacy in textile manufacturing, with its roots in traditional handloom weaving and intricate embroidery that date back several decades. Over the years, the sector has transformed, adopting modern production techniques, and diversifying its product range. Today, the textile MSMEs in the region specialize in manufacturing a growing portfolio of technical textile products such as flame-retardant fabrics, protective fabrics, airline blankets, protective textiles, shoe uppers, and high-strength warp-knitted nets. The cluster is continually evolving, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness in the technical textiles sector. With an increasing focus on product diversification and modern technological advancements, Amritsar’s technical textile industry is well-positioned to contribute significantly to both domestic and international markets.
Textile Manufacturers Association (TMA), established in 1936, is our anchor institution-industry partner in this programme. It is a leading textile association body dedicated to serving and representing the interests of textile manufacturers across the district. With a strong membership base, TMA committed to driving the growth, innovation, and long-term sustainability of the textile MSMEs.
The cluster is supported by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) under its MSME Cluster Intervention Program. This initiative is designed to empower MSMEs in the technical textiles sector by facilitating access to technology upgradation, market expansion, and financial support, enabling sustainable growth and competitiveness.
The Technical Textile Cluster, Amritsar, provides holistic support to textile MSMEs through various interventions:
